Are you itching to put your stamp on the web? This is your chance to kick things off with a fantastic design studio which offers remote working, run by a bunch of designers and developers who really know their stuff.

You’ll get 6-months on-the-job training, a proper salary and we’ll make sure you’re part of the family.

Initially for 4 days a week for a 6 month contract starting Spring/ Summer 2021 (start dates are flexible) it has the potential to become full time permanent at the end of the period.

Role overview

If you’re looking to progress your career as a full stack web developer where you’re treated as one of the team from day one, our junior web developer role could be just the role for you.

Remote working under the guidance of our experienced developers Ben and Lucian, you’ll get a serious skills boost with a 6-month training programme that includes a mix of practical on-the-job experience across a wide range of development and tech disciplines, mentoring and feedback sessions.

Outside of your contracted working hours, there’s the opportunity to further develop and accelerate your skills and experience on a range of practice projects.

About Six Two

Based in Ashford, Kent, we’re a talented, but down-to-earth team. We’ve been designing and building websites for the last 10 years – and we aim high. We push ourselves to be our best and we’re looking for someone who won’t sit back and coast. We want another member of the gang who’ll get involved and is excited to see their ideas come to life.

We don’t just do this to pay the bills; we do it because we love it. We collaborate and support each other and take our work seriously, but definitely not ourselves. Our philosophy: if you’re going to do it, do it well – with decent people who’re into it as much as you are.

We moved to remote working in March 2020 and found it to outweigh the benefits of working in an office, and will continue to offer working from home going forwards. However when lockdown measures permit, we would expect the whole team to meet in person once a fortnight in Ashford, Kent.

We still have an office with 2 hot desks in Ashford that we use for onboarding, training, team and client meetings. You’re welcome to work from the office if you prefer this to working from home.

Your experience so far

Programming experience through university/ college/ programming bootcamp courses
Good knowledge of HTML (ideally 5) and CSS (or SASS)
Some knowledge of a dynamic programming language (PHP, Ruby, Python, Java etc.)
Some knowledge of Javascript/ES6
Preferably some knowledge of WordPress
Basic understanding of APIs/ interacting with new interfaces
You have an analytical problem-solving ability to find the root cause
You value writing clean, readable and reusable code
You have high attention to detail
You have an eye for aesthetics
You have excellent communication standards

What you'll be doing

Building brand new websites based on mockups and technical briefs
Updating existing websites based on mockups and technical briefs
Thoroughly testing your code – cross browser, device, UI, functionality
Problem solving, fixing bugs and issues
Deploying to production and development servers
Improving and maintaining existing code including refactoring old code
Documenting your code and maintaining accurate records of changes
Helping maintain and improve internal development systems, tools and processes
Delivering work on time and to standard

Job package and benefits

Salary £9.23 – £10.26 per hour DOE
30 hours per week, 4 days a week (days to be agreed with your manager)
Working hours from 8.30/9.30am – 5/6pm (including hour lunch break)
6 month contract, with potential to become permanent at end of period
Remote working, but with option to work in Ashford Kent office if preferred
In person team meetings once per fortnight in Ashford Kent
12 days paid holiday including bank holidays over the 6 month period
6 month training under guidance of our development team
Option to accelerate your experience and learning with practice projects outside of contracted working hours
