Pavelka House for Cisco

Step challenge technology for a global employee health competition

Back to case studies

The brief

Our client, Pavelka, comissioned our WordPress experts in Kent to build a step challenge feature for Cisco. The objective was to encourage Cisco employees across the world to improve their health and wellbeing, through taking part in a friendly competition to see which team could record the greatest number of steps in a month.

Our results

Our WordPress development specialists built a bespoke WordPress plugin for the existing Pavelka House for Cisco. The key functionality includes:

  • Dynamic leaderboards – users can form teams and earn points for their team by logging their steps. A dynamic leaderboard shows all the teams competing and how many points each team has earned at that current point in time.
  • API integrations – users can connect their Fitbit and Apple Health (via Nokia Health Mate) step data, which means their steps are automatically pulled into the House and converted into points on a daily basis.
  • Personalisation – as there are hundreds of teams competing, teams can follow other teams (for example, following their department counterparts in different countries) to see a personalised dynamic leaderboard and compete on a smaller, more meaningful scale.

The challenge ran in 2019 and saw a record number of staff joining the Pavelka House for Cisco, and encouraged healthy habits with tens of millions of steps recorded.
